The Galerie Berès, facing the south west wing of the Louvre which stands across the river, was founded by Huguette Berès in 1951 and is now run by Anisabelle Berès, her daughter. Its twin focus has been, from Day One, on the graphic arts from the Far East and the avant-garde movements in 19th century France.
Major monographic shows of Japanese print making staged over the years include Utamaro, which travelled from Paris to London in 1980. The catalogue is widely held to be the reference book on the subject. Other exhibitions focused on Hiroshige, Hokusai and Sharaku. The latter, a historical event, included half of Sharaku’s known oeuvre and was internationally acclaimed. Carré Rive Gauche 2011 from 11-05-27 to 11-05-29
Pour la 34ème année consécutive, le Carré Rive Gauche ouvre ses portes du 27 au 29 mai 2011 afin de nous proposer un rendez-vous culturel prestigieux et incontournable. Au cœur des 6ème et 7ème arrondissements de Paris, dans un cadre historique préservé, qu’ils soient jeunes marchands ou héritiers d’une longue lignée, les antiquaires et galeristes du Carré Rive Gauche ont tous à cœur de sauvegarder les trésors de notre patrimoine et de transmettre leur passion commune à la jeune génération. Notons qu’une demi-douzaine de nouveaux marchands viennent d’ouvrir leur galerie au sein du Carré Rive Gauche ; ces nouveaux adhérents témoignent ainsi de l’attrait et du dynamisme de notre quartier.
